Excursions Athens, Attika

Island Hopping…

Sounio’s proximity to Lavrio port (9km) brings an array of islands within easy reach! Several ferries depart each week for islands including Syros, Tinos, Mykonos, Paros, Naxos, Kythnos, Ios, Mylos, Amorgos – each featuring a distinctive character and ambience ranging from lively beaches and night life to peaceful retreats and historic venues, churches and archaeological sites.

All of the above islands are linked by sea and / or air to other destinations as well as the major ports of Piraeus and Rafina.  Detailed departure information is available from the Reception.

Nightlife

Athens is a good place for ‘night owls’. The Greeks start dining between 21:00 and 23:00 before moving onto the city’s diverse and abundant selection of bars and nightclubs around 01:00, finishing in the ‘late’ early hours…often with a 06:00 soup in a traditional taverna…
Glyfada & Voula are Athens’ busiest suburbs for summer nightlife with many modern restaurants and nightclubs lining the shore.

In Psiri, located just north of Plaka, countless restaurants, cafés, bars and “ouzeries” (bars serving mezze and ouzo, plus beer and wine) line the roads between Ermou Street, Athinas Street and Monastiraki. A variety of clubs cater to all musical tastes – from Latin grooves to Greek rock to traditional Rembetika music.

In summer, live outdoor concerts and performing arts events are held in Herod Atticus Theatre and on Lycabettus Hill. The Megaro Concert Hall is the city’s leading performing arts centre with regular classical concerts, theatrical and operatic performances by local and internationally acclaimed artistes.
