Location
Cape Sounio lies at the southernmost tip of mainland Greece and is the gateway to the Aegean Islands. The Cape is less than an hour’s drive from the historical city of Athens and is easily accessible from Athens International Airport via the main ‘Attica’ highway or scenic coast road.
Arriving by sea
The port and marina of Lavrion (Laurion) are located at the southeast tip of Attica. They are, in many ways, more convenient bases from which to explore the Cyclades than the Alimos / Kalamaki Marina in Athens. Though roughly the same distance from Athens International Airport, it is one day’s less sail and the island of Kea is just 14 nm away.
The prevailing winds are usually N-NW and the waters are sufficiently deep for sailing.
